Nonprofit hosts its first-ever community event

C-CAP Careers through Culinary Arts Program held its first community event ever at PHX Renews on Nov. 6. Arizona Cardinal Larry Fitzgerald was awarded the C-CAP Community Award for his volunteer work in Phoenix. Valley chefs Mark Tarbell and Beau MacMillan were the evening’s emcees. Guests enjoyed a three-course dinner of local, seasonal cuisine paired with local wine and prepared by Arizona’s top chefs and C-CAP alumni. The sold-out event was in support of the nonprofit Careers through Culinary Arts Program, which prepares at-risk high school students and alumni for college and careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry. JoAnn Holland chaired the occasion.

The national nonprofit organization, founded in 1990 by culinary educator and author Richard Grausman, has awarded students more than $43 million in scholarships and donated $3.2 million worth of supplies and equipment to classrooms. C-CAP operates programs in New York; Los Angeles; Chicago; the Philadelphia area; Hampton Roads, Virg.; Washington, D.C.; and Arizona.
