Frontdoors Media, a digital media company that publishes Frontdoors Magazine and provides extensive online coverage of the Valley’s philanthropy and lifestyle, has selected industry veteran Karen Werner as its new Editor.
Werner is an accomplished writer with experience in a number of different platforms, and frequently serves as an adjunct professor of editing and magazine writing at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. She is the founder and principal of KWink Media, a consulting firm that helps create publications and manage communications for a number of prominent for-profit and nonprofit organizations.
Werner previously worked as Executive Editor of Arizona Foothills Magazine, and has produced publications for the Musical Instrument Museum, the Arizona Office of Tourism, and the City of Glendale. She also created and served as Editor in Chief of Wavelength, a magazine for Phoenix-area NPR affiliates KJZZ and KBAQ.
Frontdoors Media Publisher Andrea Tyler Evans, who bought Frontdoors Media along with her husband Tom in early 2017, said Werner’s expertise and exceptional writing skills make her an ideal choice to lead the Frontdoors editorial team moving forward.
“We are very excited to welcome Karen to the team and to have her take the lead in advancing our editorial coverage of the community,” Evans said. “Karen is an ideal choice to take the vision we’ve created for the publication and help it grow and expand its reach in the Valley. We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of positive impact she can have on our coverage across our digital platforms.”
Werner will succeed previous Frontdoors editor Mike Saucier, who passed away on November 1 after a brief battle with cancer. Evans said that Saucier was instrumental in the creation of the vision for the revamped magazine and digital platform, and Frontdoors Media has been dedicated to Saucier’s memory in perpetuity.
Werner said she is looking forward to the new position and helping shape the company’s editorial approach moving forward.
“I am honored and excited to take on this role and to build on the impressive foundation Mike Saucier laid,” she said. “I believe my experience across print and digital platforms coupled with my deep interest in the Valley’s philanthropic community will continue to drive the success of the Frontdoors brand.”
