The Next Step

Ballet Arizona's first-ever capital campaign is in its final stages of raising the money to transform a warehouse on East Washington Street into a new home for the company and its school.

The Next Step campaign, which began in January 2011, has now reached more than $8 million. Included in the total are $3.2 million in City of Phoenix bond funds, approved for the project by Phoenix voters in 2006.

"We are now in the hardest part of the campaign – raising the final $2 million," said Carol Schilling, campaign co-chair. "But with the help of the wonderful friends of the Ballet, we'll finish the campaign on time."

Jacquie Dorrance, campaign co-chair, said the new facility will provide adequate rehearsal and administrative space for the company and school and will lift the visibility of Ballet Arizona, which is becoming a nationally-acclaimed performing arts organization.
