One Man Show by Pascal
Pascal, Pivot 3, 22" x 22", mixt media, November 2014
Calvin Charles Gallery hosts “Pivot,”
a one-man show by French artist Pascal,
whose contemporary wall sculptures
are internationally renowned.
Pascal Pierme is a French man who settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1997. Prior to that time, he had gained a European reputation as a promising young sculptor. He accomplished several solo exhibitions in France and Switzerland, and worked on collaborative projects alongside creative giants such as Pierre Cardin.
Pascal’s technique is interactive. Each work of art is characterized by a graceful balance, a meticulous attention to detail. Even as he carves and burnishes, he allows the piece to guide him. "Wood has its own intelligence," he says. "It knows many things, and it teaches them to me. In this way, I understand what I want to do with it, so that the final image reflects its innate qualities as well as my own thoughts and feelings.
“I have created what I want my work to make me feel. We say in French, 'Prend la vie comme elle vient.' Translation: Take life how it is coming. It is hard to give up the desire to control and just accept; close your eyes feel the wind. Lightness, simplicity, color and a logical evolution remains consistent throughout my sculpture. However, through this body of work I also wanted to understand the static that is inherent in movement, and non-geometric curves. Similar to the unexpected surprise of the mix of objects found in a garage sale; I have combined architecture, landscape, nature and sensuality.” – Pascal
