‘A Christmas Carol’ Undergoes Ghostly Reboot Courtesy of TheaterWorks
TheaterWorks is bringing back the holiday classic — Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” — this holiday season at the Gyder Theater at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts.
The production will serve as the holiday installment of the theater’s MasterWorks series and is adapted by Valley playwright Richard Powers Hardt and directed by Chris Hamby.
The beloved holiday tale — featuring the story of an old miser taken through a journey through his past, present and future by helpful ghosts — has been a favorite of children and adults for over a hundred years, but Dickens’ original version was intended to be more of a ghost story than the adaption many know today.
“I am approaching ‘A Christmas Carol’ as the ghost story Dickens intended it to be,” Hamby said. “I believe that to fully understand Scrooge’s redemption, we must first see his dark side. This way we can fully appreciate the man he eventually comes to be.”
The performance will include the best of TheaterWorks — including a cast of youth and adult actors as well as puppetry.
Performances will take place December 8-24 with evening and matinee show times.
