Downtown Phoenix joins more than 196 global International Jazz Day celebrations on April 30, the date officially designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate jazz and the role it plays in uniting people in all corners of the world. The free outdoor concert at CityScape features world-renowned jazz saxophonist Azar Lawrence, New Orleans jazz vocalist, and Phoenix native Nayo Jones, and an all-star lineup of local, national and international jazz artists.

This diva, known to you as the best-selling artist of all-time, makes an appearance one day and what follows is an outrageous look at fame and the price paid to achieve it. Join Maestro Tito Muñoz and his convincing musicianship on the podium in an evening of beautiful and diverse choral repertoire with The Phoenix Symphony Chorus and the world-renowned Phoenix Boys Choir. The evening begins with Vaughan Williams’ Magnificat, a lyrical expression of joy and thanksgiving. The evening continues with Brahms’ Schicksalslied or “Song of Destiny,” which explores the competing existence of deities and mortals. The evening concludes with both choirs singing Kodály’s rarely performed Psalmus hungaricus, a bombastic and defiant work based on scriptures’ Psalm 55 to mark the 50th anniversary of the unification of Buda and Pest in Hungary.

As an artist, Andy Warhol’s unique visual language tells the story of an artist fascinated with the phenomena of fame and celebrity. This exhibition features Warhol’s depictions of the persona that forever embedded celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Sylvester Stallone and Prince – to name a few – into America’s cultural conscience as well as several of his self-portraits including silkscreen works, Polaroids of the artist in drag, and family photographs of a young Warhol.

The Desert Botanical Garden presents new works by world-renowned artists Philip and Matt Moulthrop. The exhibition features a collection of turned wood that reveals the inherent beauty of trees and shrubs native to Arizona. Woodturning has been a Moulthrop family legacy for three generations and their pieces are immediately recognizable by their distinct contemporary forms. You can find their work in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute, the American Craft Museum of New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art.

Lisa Sette Gallery is pleased to present the works of two exciting international artists: the bronze sculptures of Indian artist Siri Devi Khandavilli and the historically charged conceptual works of Cuban artist Reynier Leyva Novo.
