2015 Evening with the Friends

Almost 400 guests turned out in Western attire to “Give Cancer the Boot”

at the March 21 Evening With Friends, the annual fundraising party hosted by

the Phoenix Friends of Arizona Cancer Center. The event at the Scottsdale Resort

and Conference Center raised funds for the University of Arizona Cancer Center.

As guests entered past the fountain, they were greeted by dancing cowboy boots projected onto the falling water. The festive evening included a silent auction during the cocktail hour, a live auction, dinner and dancing to SRP’s Second Shift band.

Rita Davenport, mistress of ceremonies, kept everyone laughing, and auctioneer Brett Higgins kept the bidding lively.

Suzanne Hanson, president of the Friends, announced that in “just a few months a state-of-the-art university of Arizona Cancer Center facility for cancer research and treatment will open at Seventh Street and Fillmore in downtown Phoenix to join the main campus in Tucson.”

Since 1986, the organization has raised more than $6 million to support ACC research and treatment. This year’s funds are dedicated to the purchase of one of only eight AppStream machines in the country. The March 21 event raised approximately $250,000 toward this goal.

Auction and party co-chairs were Barbie Boyle, Nancy Berge, Mary Kolbe, Linda Mae Bucher and Mickey Rufenacht.
