MARY CARPENTER with special guest AOIFE O'DONOVAN
at Musical Instrument Museum
Five-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter and 2012 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Mary Chapin Carpenter will embark on a unique series of intimate, acoustic performances this spring. The tour marks Carpenter’s return to singing both timeless hits and deep cuts from her expansive and beloved thirteen-album catalog after performing with orchestras in early 2014.
Aiofe O’Donovan is an American singer and songwriter based in Brooklyn. While she is best known as the founder and frontwoman of the string band Crooked Still, she is also one-third of the female trio Sometymes Why, and has appeared on the “Prairie Home Companion” radio program. She has collaborated with artists as varied as jazz trumpeter Dave Douglas, Yo-Yo Ma’s Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile’s Goat Rodeo Sessions band, the Boston Pops Orchestra, and Olabelle, to name just a few.

As an artist, Andy Warhol’s unique visual language tells the story of an artist fascinated with the phenomena of fame and celebrity. This exhibition features Warhol’s depictions of the persona that forever embedded celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Sylvester Stallone and Prince – to name a few – into America’s cultural conscience as well as several of his self-portraits including silkscreen works, Polaroids of the artist in drag, and family photographs of a young Warhol.

The Desert Botanical Garden presents new works by world-renowned artists Philip and Matt Moulthrop. The exhibition features a collection of turned wood that reveals the inherent beauty of trees and shrubs native to Arizona. Woodturning has been a Moulthrop family legacy for three generations and their pieces are immediately recognizable by their distinct contemporary forms. You can find their work in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute, the American Craft Museum of New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art.
