Summer Camp at MIM

This summer, kids ages 6 to 13 can travel around the world during

summer camp at the Musical Instrument Museum.

From June 1 through June 26, MIM will immerse campers in music, dance, world cultures and hands-on activities in an inaugural program that offers a unique focus on global culture, highlighting world connections through the power of music, art and more.

MIM Summer Camp consists of four weeklong segments featuring these cultural themes:

>> June 1 – 5: Asia

>> June 8 – 12: Africa

>>  June 15-19: Latin America

>>  June 22 – 26 USA

Each themed week offers a complete and unique camp experience, and children can attend just one week or up to all four.

The designated culture will be emphasized through tours of MIM’s Geographical Galleries, hands-on activities, singing and dancing. Age-appropriate music lessons will utilize instruments, beats and rhythms that reflect the unique aspects of the week’s culture. For example, during Africa week, campers will participate in a South African gumboot activity. Additionally, based on the selected culture for the week, campers will engage in dance, drama or puppetry-based activities led by camp specialists.

Campers will be divided into three age groups: 6 – 8 year-olds, 9 – 10 year-olds and 11 – 13 year-olds. All lessons will be taught by knowledgeable teaching artists who create plans designed to accommodate the wide range of camper ages and ability levels.

To close each day, campers will spend time in their groups to recap key learning points. This activity will be reflected through various ways such as journaling, group discussion and more.

Parents have the option of extending the camp activities with aftercare, which lasts until 5:30 p.m. During aftercare, campers may choose to participate in one of several different activities including art projects, group activities, board games or playing musical instruments.
