Rescued-Food Donation
A SILVER LINING
Rainy skies during the Waste Management
Phoenix Open made for a bigger surprise
for 30,000 members of the Valley
community in need of food. During the
tournament, M Catering by Michael’s
donated 30,000 pounds of perishable
food to Waste Not, a nonprofit food-rescue
organization. That compares to 8,800
pounds M Catering donated from the Open
in 2014.

M Catering by Michael's
According to Chef Michael DeMaria, co-founder of M Catering, rain has historically meant less food eaten by tournament goers even in a record-breaking attendance year.
The rescued food is equivalent to a monetary donation of $51,900. This food-recovery donation is a responsible practice that M Catering is committed to, particularly for spectator events like the Open. The practice makes the Waste Management Phoenix Open truly waste-free.
