Anti-Defamation League bestows

Torch of Liberty award on D-backs'

Derrick Hall

D-backs President and CEO Derrick Hall received the Torch of Liberty Award from the Anti-Defamation League on Nov. 13 at the nonprofit agency’s annual dinner. The award, ADL’s highest honor, was established to recognize individuals who have exhibited extraordinary humanitarianism and whose everyday actions exemplify the principles of opportunity, anti-discrimination, equal rights, community involvement and fairness for all.

Hall has dedicated himself and the D-backs to advocacy, fairness, equality and opportunity for all. With baseball as the vehicle, his one-fan-at-a-time commitment to the people of Arizona has created an open, honest and free-flowing connection with the people who call Arizona home. He has extended a helping hand to fans dealing with debilitating illness, financial hardship and serious personal issues. His service to the Arizona nonprofit community extends to more than 25 organizations with a passionate connection to children, education, hunger and cancer.

Proceeds from the Torch of Liberty Awards dinner benefit the ADL’s Community Partnership to Fight Hate, which is an ongoing battle to keep our community and state free from hate, bias, prejudice and discrimination. Don Brandt, APS president and CEO; Linda Hunt, Dignity Health senior vice president of operations in Arizona; and George Weisz, president of Weisz Ventures, co-chaired the dinner.
