Two Treatment Centers, One Cause

Cancer Treatment Centers of America joins forces with

Mayo Clinic to support cancer patients

Two cancer treatment powerhouses have united to support one cause – the cancer community at large.

Molly Stockley, assistant vice president of hospital growth for Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and Sameer R. Keole, MD, Proton Beam medical director for the Mayo Clinic, have joined forces to co-chair the 2014 Porch Party on Oct. 18 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. The Porch Party is an annual event hosted by Cancer Support Communities (Phoenix house, below right), an international nonprofit dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer.

The co-chairs bring a great deal of passion to the event. Molly Stockley has a very personal story of losing her best friend to cancer. She founded the Kristi Cares Melanoma Foundation to elevate public awareness on the prevention, early detection and risk of melanoma, a problem especially critical in Arizona.  Kristina Anne Stockley, a beloved daughter, wife, sister, aunt and friend lost her battle with melanoma on Feb. 16, 2006, at the young age of 28.

Dr. Sameer Keole is the medical director of the Mayo Clinic’s upcoming Proton Beam program, a major undertaking on its Phoenix campus, set to open in spring 2016. His role (and his passion) is with this new treatment mode for patients with complex cancers – the first in the Southwest. That is what drives Keole – another major treatment in the arsenal of treatment for cancer in the Valley. Proton beam is a highly targeted, precise way of administering radiation therapy, delivering higher doses of radiation to malignant tumors, while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

Together CTCA and the Mayo Clinic team up because, fundamentally, they represent the same cause – to support all those affected by cancer.
