The Phoenix Zoo Auxiliary is launching the

first donor wall of its kind in the country,

designed with glass tiles cast from

handprints from the public.

The auxiliary will begin selling the three dimensional, one-of-a-kind tiles at a launch event at the zoo on Sat., April 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., during the zoo’s Earth Day festivities.

During the launch event, guests can purchase the $500 tile kit and receive hands-on instruction from auxiliary members. The kit comes with the casting mold. After the handprint has been captured in the mold, it is sent to the designer to be placed in glass, etched with the name of the donor and finished with a color.

“The tiles will be showcased in a premier location at the entrance of the zoo,” says JoEllen Doornbos, auxiliary president. “These unique and beautiful tiles will stand as a symbol of support of the Phoenix Zoo.

The group will also sell the tiles and offer instruction on Sat., April 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. After that event, tile kits will be available at the zoo’s Desert Marketplace gift shop or by contacting the auxiliary at 602-273-1341, ext. 7342, or phxzooprints@gmail.com.
