The Coffee Chop Spills The Beans
Are you coffee smart?
Phoenix coffee advocate and Instagram rockstar Perry Czopp is ready to spill the beans about roasting in his next coffee gathering at Tempe’s Crêpe Bar. Three Roasts, on Saturday, May 18, is the second session in the Knowledge Series – morning “classes” geared to the layperson interested in learning more about specialty coffee.
Czopp will share his coffee knowledge on the roasting process and the importance it has in the cup you make at home or buy at the café. Guests will get to sample different roasts to learn about tastes and flavors, and participate in roasting experiments. All the while noshing on bites from the award-winning restaurant, Crêpe Bar.
“Roasting coffee is like being a chef. You’re taking an amazing, beautiful ingredient – the green bean – and turning it into something everyone can enjoy,” says Czopp. “And with any food, there are different beans and different methods to get a range of tastes and flavors.”
The Coffee Chop “Knowledge Series” is a morning edition of Czopp’s popular Latte Art Throwdowns. While the throwdowns are evening events for the Arizona coffee industry, the Knowledge sessions are designed for the layperson interested in learning more about specialty coffee. Each session covers different aspects of coffee – from how to prepare it at home to learning about different roasts and flavors.
“The mission of The Coffee Chop is to put Phoenix on the coffee map. A big part of that is for people to be able to share the greatness of coffee in their own homes. Understanding the qualities you like in a roast will help you select the best beans to enjoy at home.” Czopp explains.
Three Roasts will be from 8:30 – 10 am on Saturday, May 18 at Crêpe Bar in Tempe. Cost is $45 per person for advanced registration and $52 per person on the day of the event.
