‘Destination Cures’ Takes Flight at Scottsdale Airport
Arizona Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall and his wife, Amy, were honorary co-chairs for “Destination Cures,” the inaugural gala for Gateway for Cancer Research. The Halls were recognized with the Leader in Cancer Advocacy Awards. The 25-year-old nonprofit organization funds clinical trials for all cancer types.
The casual April 30 gala was held at Hangar Two at Signature Flight Support in Scottsdale Airport. The 150 guests enjoyed silent and live auctions, culinary tastes from around the world and entertainment by acoustic guitarist Raul Malo of the Mavericks.
The gala generated more than $136,000, with all proceeds going directly to fund clinical trials at Gateway for Cancer Research. The organization commits 99 cents of every dollar directly toward the cancer research it supports, thanks to generous underwriting.
Katie Wheat, regional development officer for Gateway for Cancer Research, chaired the event, and radio and TV personality Heidi Foglesong served as the evening’s emcee.
