Scottsdale Leadership, PTSD Foundation of America’s ‘Home Runs for Heroes’ Event Set for March 19

Arizona has one of the nation’s largest veteran populations, and Scottsdale Leadership is teaming up with the PTSD Foundation of America to help thank the state’s vets for their service while raising awareness about veteran suicide.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are slated to play the San Diego Padres Tuesday, March 19 at Scottsdale’s Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, and the two nonprofit organizations are inviting all Valley veterans and their families members to attend this exhilarating spring training matchup, free of charge. Interested veterans who register here can score four tickets per household, which game admission, snacks and drinks and access to the Pepsi Cola Deck included with each ticket.

Statistics from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs reveal that post-traumatic stress disorder affects about 20 percent of the 507,706 veterans currently living in Arizona, with the state seeing about 55 suicides for every 100,000 veterans. This figure trumps that of the national average of 38 suicides per 100,000 veterans, highlighting a need for more support services that treat PTSD and other issues affecting today’s veteran populations. For veterans suffering from PTSD, it’s important that they find a method to cope with these issues, or they can start to have a dangerous impact on their lives. Some veterans in other countries have found that some strains of medical marijuana (Read more info about them here) can be useful for reducing the stress and anxiety that veterans normally feel. There are so many different strains of weed out there, so it’s important to do some research before purchasing some. To learn more about some of the strains of weed available, it might be worth visiting a website like weedsmart.net, for example. That should help some veterans to cope with their mental illnesses. However, more needs to be done for them too.

Programs such as Home Runs for Heroes seek to provide just that, giving veterans a chance to find healing, balance and support as they adapt to transitions and reintegrate into civilian life.
