Frontdoors Five: Five Ways to Keep Cool This Summer

The 100 degree temperatures are here, and the days of nice weather and outdoor activities are pretty much done for. However, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the summer in Phoenix — as long as you’re indoors. Check out our list of our top five ways to stay out of the heat this season.
Indulge in some ice cream.
There’s no shortage of great ice cream spots in the Valley — our favorites are Sweet Republic Ice Cream, Sugar Bowl, Mary Coyle, the Gelato Spot and Snoh Ice Shavery.
Hang out by the pool.
There’s no shortage of amazing pools in the Valley, but one of our favorites as of late is the Clarendon Oasis Pool, which has Café Tranquilo conveniently nearby for some post-sun grub.
Hit the library.
School might be out of session, but it’s prime time to enjoy the peace and serenity of a great library, like the Scottsdale Civic Center Library. Bring a mug of iced coffee, grab a comfy chair looking out at the Civic Center Park and catch up on your book reading in quiet, undisturbed air-conditioned bliss. Bonus: it’s free.
Caffeinate with cold brew.
Regular old iced coffee is a thing of the past — the cold brew fad is taking over, and if you haven’t gotten on board yet, now’s the perfect time. Skip Starbucks and try out some great local coffee shops – like Sweetz Cold Brew in Gilbert or Cartel, which has locations in Tempe, Scottsdale, Phoenix and even the airport.
See a show.
While there may not be much going on at ASU’s Gammage over the summer plenty of other Phoenix theatres are putting on performances — like Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Saturday Night Fever at Arizona Broadway Theatre, or Beehive and 3 Redneck Tenors at Phoenix Theatre.
