Close Encounters Delivers Concerts Featuring Women Composers, Unrequited Love

Close Encounters With Music Artistic Director and cellist Yehuda Hanani

Close Encounters with Music, a fluid ensemble of classical musicians, will perform two concerts showcasing women composers with a theme of unrequited love — “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman” on January 17 and “The Passion of Camille Saint-Saëns and César Franck – L’Amour Toujours!” on February 7.
Close Encounters will be directed by cellist Yehuda Hanani and typically includes a violin, cello and piano, though it sometimes includes additional musicians for more variety.
Hanani, pianist Renana Gutman, violinist Peter Zazofsky and soprano Danielle Tallamantes will perform “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman” together. The name of the concert comes from one of the many works on the program composed by women. Close Encounter’s program will be the Arizona premiere of the Grammy Award-winning American composer Joan Tower’s series of five Fanfares for the Uncommon Woman.
Additional composers to be featured in the concert include Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Thea Musgrave and Tamar Muskal.
“The Passion of Camille Saint-Saëns and César Franck – L’Amour Toujours!” will include two large-scale works inspired by the unrequited love for the same woman.
Hanani will perform with violinists Hagai Shaham and Diana Cohen; pianist Roman Rabinovich; and violist Pierre Henri Xuereb.
The works of composers Camille Saint-Saëns and César Franck will be featured.
