When Bob Kolbrener walked into the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park in 1968, the moment proved a galvanizing one. "The burning incense and classical music set the tone for an experience that I can easily recall today with exactitude,he says.

Over the next decade Kolbrener was a student of Adams, who then invited him to instruct photography alongside him for seasonal workshops. Kolbrener and his wife became nomadic, shooting in the west and establishing a gallery in Missouri as a home base. For 40 years they kept up a cycle of travel, teaching and gallery work.

Kolbrener's photography reflects the seasons and the shift of light in the dramatic landscape of the American West. He has continued a tradition of "straight" photography in the Ansel Adams style, with no computer enhancement and no print or negative manipulation.
