Mariachi Festival Returns to Downtown Phoenix

The second annual International Mariachi Festival will take place on November 4 at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Phoenix to celebrate 120 years of music.
Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, one of the world’s most renowned mariachi groups, will headline the show with violins, trumpets, guitars and more while celebrating its 120th anniversary.
Carlos Martinez is currently directing the group. The group was previously led by Pepe Martinez, who guided the group for nearly 40 years and who wrote the music for the world’s first mariachi opera, “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna.”
The newly assembled Mariachi Ángeles de Pepe Martinez Jr. will also perform. The group features Jose “Pepe” Martinez Jr., who was a leading member of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán for 25 years.
Additional performers include soloist Marisa Ronstadt and Tuscon-based Ballet Folklórico Tapatío.
Mariachi Saguaritos, a children’s mariachi ansemble, will perform at a pre-concert in the lobby while guests arrive and enjoy drinks.
Media personality Jose Armando Ronstadt will emcee the event.
