Talks by Artists, Experts on Tap at Heritage Center

Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park will host a Fall Conversation Series featuring talks by artists and experts — kicking off on Thursday, September 21 with author of “Mexicans in Phoenix,” Frank Barrios and Phoenix Phabulous muralist, Anel Arriola.
Barrios is a fourth-generation Phoenician who will share his thoughts on the heritage of pioneer families from Mexico who settled in Phoenix.
Arriola is a Phoenix artist and graduate student at Arizona State University. She will discuss her mural, which will show the city’s growth in arts, culture and diversity as well as her master’s thesis, which illustrates the connection between art, current events and opportunities for community collaboration.
The series will continue on November 1 with a talk by local artist Damian Jim. Jim will present a mural depicting an ancient Hohokam canal system and discuss his process in creating its design.
His presentation will be followed by a director of water strategy for Freeport McMoran and former director of water resources for Arizona, Sandy Fabritz-Whitney, who will discuss Phoenix’s growth in the context of the city’s future water supply.
The series will conclude with the Phoenix Phabulous Mural installation’s closing reception on January 18.
