Storybook Ballet Features Children Living in Homeless Shelters and Foster Care

Dance Theatre West’s 2018 performance of “Swan Lake with a Splash!” featured young children from local homeless shelters and foster care group homes joining the ballet company on stage for a free performance.
The event, which took place at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, marks Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona’s 19th year of collaboration with Dance Theatre West.
“We’re so fortunate to have a long standing partner like Dance Theater West,” said Jessica Flowers, program director at Free Arts. “The partnership has provided hundreds of children with an opportunity to perform on stage and experience the arts for the first time.”
Guests also had the opportunity to view the exhibit “I am Human” which was created by 10 teenagers from a local residential treatment center, which includes mixed-media pieces reflecting on the traits that make us human.
The program was made possible by support from the Scottsdale Arts, Scottsdale League for the Arts, The Bob &Renee Parsons Foundation, Thunderbird Charities, Arizona Lottery, and Scottsdale 20/30.
