Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) presents a full lineup of events and programs in conjunction with its fall season, including exclusive screenings of two new series from the brand-new VICELAND television channel developed by Peabody Award-winning VICE media. Events fill quickly and early arrival is encouraged to claim one of the limited seats for free events.

VICELAND @SMoCA: DRC
Thursday, November 10, 7 p.m.  – $7; $5 for Members
SMoCA presents the provocative shows Woman (2016 Emmy Nominee) and States of Undress from the brand-new VICELAND television channel developed by Peabody Award-winning VICE media. VICELAND @SMoCA kicks off with episodes that examine two diverse communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where citizens unite against real and threatened violence. Special guests Patience Kasanda and DIEU Merci from the Congolese Community of Arizona, and Dr. Reed Wood, associate professor at the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University, will join after the screening to lead a discussion.
Lit Happy Hour: Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay

Guerrilla Girls Take on Arizona

Legendary feminist activists, the Guerrilla Girls send founding member Kathe Kollwitz to talk politics, art and engagement. Presented by SMoCA at Arizona State University in conjunction with the Herberger Institute School of Art at ASU and ASU Art Museum. Located at Arizona State University Murdock Hall Room 101. Guerrilla Girls Art and Activism Workshop
Saturday, November 19, 10 a.m.  – $35; $30 for Members
Aestheticize your activism! Learn more about the Guerrilla Girls’ style of activism and how to produce your own project from founding Guerrilla Girls member Kathe Kollwitz.
Documentary Video Art Festival
Thursday, December 1, 7 p.m. – Free
A showcase of experimental shorts highlighting social, cultural and personal topics. These artworks were produced by students in the Documentary Video Art class as part of the Intermedia program of the School of Art, Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University.
VICELAND @SMoCA: Pakistan
Thursday, December 8, 7 p.m. – $7; $5 for Members
The second installment of episodes from the brand-new VICELAND television channel developed by Peabody Award-winning VICE media moves to Pakistan to investigate how women in different communities approach a changing conservative culture. Special guests Daniel Rothenberg, professor of practice at the School of Politics and Global Studies and co-director at the Center on the Future of War at Arizona State University, and Madelaine Adelman, associate professor of Justice and Social Inquiry in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University, will join after the screening to discuss themes explored in the episodes.
