Merry Montelucia

The Montelucia Resort & Spa was

all about the holidays Tues., Dec.

3, hosting the Festival of Trees

to benefit Phoenix Children’s

Hospital and later flipping

the switch to light the large tree

in the courtyard.

Guests at the VIP cocktail reception for the Festival of Trees had the opportunity to bid on 15 magical Christmas trees, decorated by local designers. The trees filled the Castillo Lucena, where the crystal chandeliers and mirrors heightened the sparkle.

By 6 p.m., the resort’s courtyard was teeming with families for the lighting of the outdoor tree. After a second countdown by those assembled – the first wasn’t loud enough – the tall tree became instantly awash in tiny white lights. Youngsters ran to enjoy the fresh snow produced by a snow machine, while adults enjoyed the holiday music of carolers. Santa made an appearance as well.

featured children's musical instruments of all kinds. When the tree moves, it makes a joyful noise!

Guarding the tree is a special soldier boy who also plays music.

"Victory" by Esther Boivin Interiors,

was inspired by "Winged Victory of Samothrace," a sculpture which has been displayed frequently at the Louvre.

It is a soothing image of hope for the patients at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

"A Letter to Santa," by Quite Lovely Design.

The inspiration for this tree came from the designer's husband, Jim,  who always had the spirit of Christmas in his heart. Growing up in the Midwest, he just couldn't wait for the first snowfall. Each year he sat eagerly and searched through the Sears Catalog for new toys while writing his letter to Santa. Jim's grandfather built a white picket fence to frame his Christmas tree and on one post was a special mailbox, where he and his three brothers would mail off their letters to Santa. This scene has been recreated with this mid-century tree.
