Main Dish

If you love all things tabletop, Main Dish, a year-old boutique in Scottsdale’s Arts District, will have you

smitten the minute you walk in the door. With 50 exclusive brands beautifully displayed on the showroom floor,

it is one of a handful of stores in the U.S. with such an extensive array of china, crystal, silver and linens.

For the most part, the collections are not of the department store ilk. They include Alberto Pinto and Hermes porcelain, Hamburg House linens and RoyalLimoges china. Lalique, Pickard, Lappas – if the china (or silver or crystal or linens) you crave is high-end, chances are Main Dish has a sample for you to see. Bold or subdued, formal or informal, patterned or plain: Imagine the possibilities.

Aundrea Pagni, store manager, attends shows four times a year, finding new lines launched by some of the finest European designers. Pagni graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising with a degree in interior design. She has 13 years’ experience in the industry and works closely with other designers and their clients to select tableware they will enjoy for years to come. She has consulted with private chefs, and helped with selections for planes, yachts and second homes.

The displays in Main Dish are interesting because they are not standard homogenous place settings. Pagni mixes and matches brands, colors and styles to achieve visually interesting combinations. Most of her customers follow her lead, creating their “look” from two or more different lines.

Main Dish is owned by interior designer Matthew Boland, who operates MMB Studio out of an adjacent room. He provides design services to a national and international profile of residential and commercial clients and in October 2004 was named one of America’s Top Young Designers by House Beautiful magazine. His work has been profiled in Architectural Digest, House Beautiful and trade publications.

“Matthew,” a retail gallery in Main Dish, showcases a mix of curiosities he has collected from around the world, including one-of-a-kind antique and vintage furniture and accessories.

Main Dish, MMB Studio and Matthew are located at 4120 N. Marshall Way in Scottsdale.
