Women’s luncheon welcomes Cheyenne Jackson with sell-out audience

The Savor the Symphony women’s luncheon was a sell-out event for the third year in a row, with nearly 350 in attendance. The fundraising occasion at Symphony Hall on Oct. 24 combined the voice of Cheyenne Jackson with the delicious food and drink of Chef Bernie Kantak to benefit the Phoenix Symphony’s Music Education and Community Engagement programs.

Savor the Symphony began with the Fritz Spritz cocktail, featured at The Gladly, which guests enjoyed on the Symphony Hall patio, followed by a private symphony rehearsal with Cheyenne Jackson, a multi-talented actor, singer and songwriter, seen on Glee and 30 Rock as well as on Broadway.

After the morning rehearsal, guests dined on lunch prepared by Kantak of The Gladly and Citizen Public House. Jackson joined guests for lunch and a Q&A. He spoke about growing up on a farm with no running water. His mother played the guitar and sang for the family’s entertainment. “Music was everything to us,” he said, “and that’s why music education is so important for today’s children.”

“The Symphony’s mission is to provide the joy of music as a catalyst in helping Arizona become the best place in America to work and live. Savor the Symphony presents a unique way to raise funds to continue achieving this mission,” says Jim Ward, president and CEO of The Phoenix Symphony.

Nicole Stanton, wife of Mayor Greg Stanton, addressed the audience about the importance of music education, stating that “for a child, music is a vital part of their intellectual and social development . . . over half of the schools in Arizona provide no music . . . for many of these schools, the only exposure they have to music is through The Phoenix Symphony.”

Shelby Butterfield, Molly DeFilippis and Jaye Perricone co-chaired the successful luncheon.

Nicole Stanton, wife of Mayor Greg Stanton, addressed the audience about the importance of music education, stating that “for a child, music is a vital part of their intellectual and social development.” She noted that more than half of the schools in Arizona provide no music, and for many of these schools, the only exposure children have to music is through the Phoenix Symphony.

Melani Walton served as the luncheon’s honorary chair, and Marci Symington was the event chair.
