The Foundation for Blind Children held its annual fundraising dinner Nov. 2 at Dominick’s Steakhouse in Scottsdale Quarter. Don Tapia presented FBC’s 12th annual signature event, drawing more than 250 attendees. Proceeds benefit the foundation’s preschool and elementary education programs.

Highlighting the evening were special guests and Visionary Award co-recipients Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Roberts of the Arizona Cardinals and FBC’s group of blind graduates that recently became the first blind group to swim Alcatraz. Tara Hitchcock emceed the occasion, which included a silent auction, dinner and a special narrative from one of FBC’s graduates who was part of the Alcatraz swim team.

Night for Sight

The 11th annual Night for Sight fundraiser hosted by Foundation for Blind Children raised more than $225,000 for Arizona’s blind children. Health Net of Arizona was the presenting sponsor for the Nov. 3 dinner at Michael Dominick’s Lincoln Avenue Prime Steakhouse in Scottsdale.

 

The sold-out evening was emceed by former TV news anchor Tara Hitchcock and honored Don Tapia with the 2012 Visionary Award. Congressman David Schweikert and Arizona State Senator Steve Yarbrough attended the event along with several prominent Valley businessmen and women.

 

In addition to a unique pick-pull game with one-of-a-kind memorabilia, live auction items included items from a week-long Acapulco excursion to a private concert performance by country music superstar Garth Brooks.

 

Proceeds benefit FBC’s preschool and elementary programs, which help Valley children with visual impairments, blindness and multiple handicaps.
