INFOCUS Photography Exhibition and Silent Auction

The 2012 INFOCUS Photography Exhibition and Silent Auction at Phoenix Art Museum set new attendance and sales records for this annual fundraiser. A nonprofit support organization of the museum, INFOCUS was founded in 2009 to foster the appreciation and advancement of photography through educational programs, exhibitions and publications.

The Oct. 4 auction event attracted an enthusiastic crowd of 200 supporters who had the opportunity to bid on more than 50 signed limited-edition prints and books donated by acclaimed photographers from throughout Arizona and the United States. Revenues totaled $41,000, a 64-percent increase over the previous year, including $35,000 from online and silent-auction sales and $6,000 in raffle sales. All proceeds benefit INFOCUS.

“On behalf of INFOCUS, I wish to thank the many generous volunteers and photographers who contributed to the success of this event,” remarked Dr. Rebecca Senf, the Norton Family Curator of Photography at the Center for Creative Photography and Phoenix Art Museum. “It’s gratifying to see how much INFOCUS has grown and the support it’s receiving from the community. We’re looking forward to many exciting new projects in the year ahead.”

The 2012 INFOCUS Photography Exhibition and Silent Auction was INFOCUS’ fourth annual fundraiser and its first to be held at the museum. Guests mingled and viewed the exhibition in the Doris and John Norton Gallery while enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres from Santa Barbara Catering. Among those attending were members of INFOCUS and the Museum, local art collectors and photographers whose works were featured in the exhibition and silent auction.

The evening concluded with Senf and Betty Drake, INFOCUS board chair, randomly drawing the names of the five lucky winners of the raffle. The prizes included a print and signed book by Mark Klett, a color print of Mexico by Alex Webb, prints by Debra Bloomfield and David Muench, and a portfolio of cactus flower prints by Dr. John P. Schaefer.
