Fresh Start Fashion Gala

The 17th annual fashion gala to benefit Fresh Start Women’s Foundation raised more than $1 million. The 600-plus guests at the Arizona Biltmore on Feb. 2 enjoyed a cocktail reception with a silent auction, dinner, New York-style fashion show and the Club Jewell after party. Saks Fifth Avenue presented the runway show with fashions by designer Pamella Roland.

“This year’s fashion gala was another incredible success,” says Susan Berman, president and CEO of Fresh Start Women’s Foundation. “The funds raised through this event will allow us to continue serving thousands of women this year, helping them thrive.”

The Arizona Republic/12 News and Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold were the evening’s the presenting sponsors. Carole Moreno was the 2013 recipient of the Founder’s Award, which was presented to her by the 2012 honoree, Pamela Overton Risoleo. Past Founder’s Award honorees include Ina Manaster, Barbara Anderson-Stoiber and Michelle King Robson.

“Watching the growth of the gala since co-chairing the first gala in 1996 has been amazing,” says Pat Petznick, co-founder of Fresh Start Women’s Foundation with her sister, Beverly Stewart. “I am truly overwhelmed by the continued commitment from the community, friends and family who have embraced the Fresh Start mission with their gracious and generous support.”

Petznick and Stewart began by partnering with a local salon to build women’s self-esteem. Their vision has grown into a full-service center providing women with resources such as personal development, family law support, education self-esteem, and career readiness and training services. Fresh Start programs empower women to change their lives and get a fresh start in achieving their potential.

Joelle Hadley served as the evening’s emcee. Tracy Bame, of Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold, and Terry Roman, of Snell and Wilmer, co-chaired the gala.
