The ever-fun, ever-adorable Arizona Humane Society fundraising luncheon was March 17 at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa. The event drew 1,000 attendees, facilitated 16 pet adoptions (100 percent of the animals available) and grossed $450,000. This year's theme was "All You Need is Love," and the '60s Beatles era figured into the day's decor and even dessert.

Among the lucky pets with new homes is 9-year-old Labrador Cody, who went to a family with a 9-year-old daughter. Fourteen-week old Lucy, a Chihuahua who lost an eye when she was hit by a car, also found a new home, as did several kittens, including Sparkles, a kitten found in a cardboard box behind a dumpster.

Tess Loo of event sponsor My Sister’s Closet was chair of the décor committee and responsible for the creative table centerpieces. Additional sponsors included 3TV, PetSmart and Hill’s Science Diet.

A silent auction featured items from bicycles to pet clothes and a cat tree. Among the items was a custom pendant designed by award-winning jeweler Cornelis Hollander. In addition, guests could bid on 24 limited edition Petcasso sculptures designed and created by 24 local and national artists.

Funds raised from the event will go directly toward the programs and services of the Arizona Humane Society. Melinda Morrison Gulick and Kiffie Robbins co-chaired the event.
