Celebrity Luncheon

The 350 guests at the Trends Charitable Fund’s annual fundraising luncheon were treated to a special presentation by Ken Downing, fashion director and senior vice president of Neiman Marcus stores. Downing is a permanent fixture at the fashion shows in New York, London, Paris and Milan, and travels the world looking for the most innovative designers. At the April 18 luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore, he spoke on spring trends and gave a forecast of what’s in store for Fall 2013.

During the pre-luncheon social hour, guests bid on silent auction items. The luncheon tables were dressed in brown, designed by Anna Leonard of A Rosebrush.

The occasion served also to introduce the organization’s 2013 trendsetters: Marilyn Alexander, Shannon Barthelemy, Joelle Hadley, Lisa James, Lori Larcher, Mari Lederman, Diana Lents, Joyce Santis, Joette Schmidt and Vicki Vaughn.

The Trends Charitable Fund board announced the following selected charities for 2013: Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix, Crossroads, Desert Mission, Kitchen on the Street, Phoenix Rescue Mission, Save the Family, St. Joseph the Worker and Waste Not.

Sandy Hecomovich chaired the luncheon.

Celebrity Luncheon

The April 13 luncheon to benefit Trends Charitable Fund featured celebrity stylist Jill Martin and celebrity designer Oday Shakar. About 500 guests enjoyed their presentation, followed by a runway show featuring fashions by Kate Spade, Oday Shakar, St. John and Tory Burch.

Annually, this luncheon introduces the organization’s Fabulous Phoenician and Trendsetters. This year, champion of the community Bill Shover was announced as the Fabulous Phoenician. Trendsetters, along with Shover, will be featured at Trends magazine’s fall dinner. They are Dyan Haugen, Ellen Katz, Margot Knight, Beth McRae, Jennifer Moser, Kathy Petsas, Kiffie Robbins, Adrienne Schiffner, Armity Simon and Eileen Yeung.

The 2011 grant recipients are Crisis Nursery, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Teach for America and the Wellcare Foundation. Jinger Richardson was the event chair. In all, the organization netted $160,000 for the charitable fund. Presenting sponsors for the luncheon were Carole and Bob Machiz.
