Visions of Sugarplums

Always a hit with people ready to start their holiday shopping, the Nov. 19 luncheon sponsored by the Auxiliary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale featured its popular boutique. The morning at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort began with the opportunity to browse – and buy – handcrafted treasures, trendy clothing and home décor, gourmet foods and gift baskets. Beautiful table settings were also available in the silent auction.

The luncheon showcased fashions from Kierland Commons stores Chico’s, Ruby’s Boutique and White House Black Market, and Scottsdale Fashion Square stores Peek Kids, Rebecca Taylor and St. John. A live auction during the luncheon also helped fill the coffers.

The Helping Hand Tree enabled guests to buy a year membership for a young boy or girl.

About 650 guests attended the sold-out event that netted $135,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale and will provide $20,000 in scholarships to six college students who all were a part of the Boys & Girls Clubs in some capacity throughout the years.

A steering committee of 22 planned the luncheon.

Visions of Sugarplums

The Auxiliary of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale tapped into many sources to present their 31st annual fundraising luncheon at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Among those were the clubs themselves.

During registration, Brett Kotler, manager of the Thunderbird Branch, played the harp. The piano music during the silent auction was provided by Shirley Schwartz, an auxiliary member. Young members from the Rose Lane Branch opened the program with a short dance to Kristin Chenoweth’s “For Good.” And the Sugarplum Fairy Princess was Tamar, who is a BGCGS volunteer at the Vestar Branch.

The party has become a favorite for holiday shoppers with its morning boutique, featuring food, gift and decorating items. Combined with silent and live auctions, the event raised more than $100,000 to lend support to the critical needs of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. In addition to several travel packages that generated $1,000-plus each, a Baroque pearl necklace, donated by Lindsey Emerson of Emma Quist Jewelry, was sold in the live auction for $4,000, and the $5,000 raffle was won by Susan Kucera.

The entertainment also included a short dance from the “Nutcracker Ballet” by Ballet Arizona dancers, and models from The Agency Arizona strutted the runway in fashions from Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Fashion Square stores.

Cheryl Horton and Pam Longbine were co-chairs, and Rachel Sacco, president and CEO of Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau emceed the luncheon.
