Michael Davidov, M.D.

Dr. Michael Davidov died peacefully May 15, 2012, following a long illness. He was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, on Feb. 23, 1934, the only child of Kosovka and Evgenije Davidov.

He received his medical degree and completed a residency in medicine with an emphasis on surgery at the University of Belgrade, School of Medicine, becoming an assistant professor. In 1964, because he refused to join the Communist Party in Yugoslavia, he was prohibited from practicing medicine, at which point he escaped to the United States.

He repeated his medical internship and completed a residency in cardiology and a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiology at Georgetown University, School of Medicine. He went on to become a professor of cardiology at Georgetown and was nationally and internationally known for his pioneering work in hypertension and congestive heart failure. He also had one of the largest cardiology and multispecialty medical practices in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Although he served on and chaired many boards, received many honors, including being elected to the Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C., and published more than 70 peer reviewed papers, his most treasured possession was the presentation of the Vicennial Medal for 20 years of excellence in teaching from Georgetown University.

In 1996, after having two heart attacks, he was forced to retire. He and his wife, Anne, retired to Troon Village in Scottsdale, Ariz. Although he missed his students and patients, he made many wonderful friends and for 10 years enjoyed a wonderful life. He enjoyed just being "Michael."
