Man Who Built Landmark Castle Remembers Dream
It was one man against the mountain when Mort Copenhaver started building his castle 45 years ago on a southwestern ridge high on Camelback Mountain.
It took him three years to blast a driveway into the rocky hillside and 12 years to finish his stone fortress, which still stands as one of the most recognizable homes Arizona.
Today, Copenhaver, 79, is a retired orthodontist living living in Sun City.
