Erwin Arman Weber

Erwin “Flip” Arman Weber, 81, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away Jan. 22, 2013, surrounded by his family. Flip was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who touched all who knew him with warmth, humor and integrity.

Born in Boston in 1931 to Arthur Weber and Rose Arman, Flip graduated Newton High School in 1949 and Babson College in 1953. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1947 to 1953.

He began his business career as an entrepreneur in pizza supplies and ovens in New England in the 1950s. With his brother, Flip founded Only Shirts and Shirt Valet in the New York area in the early 1960s. He moved to Scottsdale in 1963, lured by Arizona’s potential and the spectacular beauty of its deserts, mountains and streams.

He opened men’s apparel retail stores in Scottsdale and later opened the Mountain Climber restaurant in Scottsdale and the Icarus restaurant in Pinetop, Ariz., in the 1970s.

For the past 40 years, he was a successful real estate broker and property investor in the greater Phoenix area. Flip spent many years on the board of directors of Holsum Bakery of Arizona.

Always an entrepreneur, Flip made a point of not allowing his business to get in the way of his love for family, friends and nature. His passions included fly-fishing, mono skiing, tennis, gardening, and building or repairing most anything with a combination of inventiveness, duct tape and epoxy.

He was also actively involved as a parent in Brophy and Xavier College Preparatory schools.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy Weber, and his children, Sean Weber (Dina), Boo Weber Louis (Bruno), Colleen (Sweet Pea) Weber and Erin Weber. He is also the father of Jon Weber (Eliza) and Leslie Pascaud (Sylvain) from a previous marriage to Marjorie Weber. He adored his 10 grandchildren.

Flip would like to be remembered as having taught his family to love and care for each other, to be generous, resourceful and independent, to enjoy life to the fullest and to appreciate the gifts of the land.
