Patti Hibbeler, CEO of Phoenix Indian Center

PHibbeler2 WEBIt takes a visionary to lead a community.  Changing the lives of over 350,000, the Phoenix Indian Center celebrates its 65 years of service to the American Indian community.  Patti Hibbeler, Phoenix Indian Center CEO of 8 years, continues to raise strong visibility and funds at the annual Silver and Turquoise Ball. The event will benefit workforce development, education, youth prevention, leadership and cultural revitalization services. “Now more than ever, we have seen our requests for assistance increase and have stretched to meet the needs,” Hibbeler states.

In 1947 with a large influx of American Indian people arriving in the Phoenix urban area from a failed Federal policy, several American Indian people in Phoenix needed help. Community members then went to the City of Phoenix to form a partnership, creating the Phoenix Indian Center as a social serving entity.

After several years of being staffed with local community volunteers to help maintain the Center, the original location was on Wall Street – in downtown where Cityscape currently exists., Phoenix Indian Center received funding and created a more formal structure. Two long term funders of the agency are the Valley of the Sun United Way and the US Department of Labor.  However, to build sustainable funding, the Phoenix Indian Center hosts an annual gala to raise money and awareness.

The 30th Annual Silver & Turquoise Ball will be held on Saturday April 13, 2013 at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale.
