Desert Gems: Arizona Treasures of the Earth

If Arizona was getting a ring for her birthday it would be one that knows her best. After all, a girl only celebrates her 101th birthday once!

For more than 40 years Sami Fine Jewelry, one of Arizona’s elite jewelers, has understood this. Located in the shadows of the Four Peaks mountain range, where amethyst is mined, Sami Fine Jewelry takes Arizona gems and creates unique treasures that are inspired.

Ancient Greeks thought that if they drank wine from a cup carved with amethyst that they could not become intoxicated. These royal gems are taken from the Arizona Four Peaks Amethyst mine just 46 miles from Phoenix.

It is believed that this is the only precious stone that requires the use of a helicopter to access the gems for mining. You can find out more information about fine gems by going to Haruni. It’s well worth the read!

The name says it all. Miners of these great gems are helped by ants that push up dirt to reveal garnets just under the earth’s surface.

Navajo call these fascinating stones “sun gems” which we have to agree is the perfect name.

Found on the Apache San Carlos indian reservation near Globe, Arizona, these lime colored gems are unveiled from 50 feet of volcanic lava.

This is the same region of the state where copper is mined. It is believed that the Peridot prevents darkness from fear and guilt.
