Why Fly?
I used to love to fly.
Years ago, getting on an airplane meant embarking on an adventure. Passengers and flight attendants were pleasant, airports were simpler to navigate. The food was more than palatable. Today, the discomforts and aggravations seem endless – power-tripping TSA agents, joint-crippling seats, stale onboard air, surly attendants, piles of fees, appalling customer service, hourslong immigration lines. Commercial flights almost always leave me in physical and emotional tatters – and I’m surely not the only one. Again and again I’ve silently fumed: If only there were another way.
