Phoenix Art Museum Gets More Down on ‘˜Paper!’

The exhibit is a celebration of paper, which explains how get something like Martha Alf’s paintings of toilet-paper rolls. “You have an oil painting in which the subject happens to be paper, and we also own the artist’s sketch of paper on paper, and that became the painting,” museum director James Ballinger says. “That’s one way we deal with it.”

The theme is virtually limitless. Essentially, if it has to do with paper or is on paper, it’s fair game for this show, which opened Saturday, May 26.
