St. Francis Xavier School Dedication

Second-grade students sang the school song.

Guests filled the courtyard of St. Francis Xavier School and Faith Center on Dec. 6 as Bishop Thomas Olmsted blessed the third and final wing of the school. Kim Cavnar, principal of St. Francis Xavier School, and Rev. Daniel J. Sullivan, J.S., pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish, welcomed guests to the outdoor courtyard.

All the students surrounded the courtyard on the ground level and on the second floor balconies. The second grade class sang the school song, an honor they earned during a month-long class-to-class singing competition. After the ceremony, student ambassadors gave guided tours of the newly completed facility.

Beth and Bob Matthews headed the capital campaign committee with Sally and John Auther serving as honorary chairs. The school’s $16 Million Capital Campaign has less than $3 million left to raise.

St. Francis Xavier School and Faith Education Center has been completed in three phases. Phase A was completed in December 2010 and is home to the preschool, kindergarten, middle school, gym and cafeteria. Phase B was completed in April 2011 and is now home to grades 1 through 5, the atrium and library. Phase C, completed in October 2013, is home to school and religious education administration, the nurse’s office, art, the E. L. Wiegand Music Center, Spanish and three additional classrooms.

To help mark the special celebration, St. Francis Xavier School also included Grandparents Day. Grandparents attended Mass at 9 a.m. with their grandchildren from school, then attended the dedication ceremony, school tours and visits to their grandchildren’s                    Beth and Bob Matthews

classrooms.
