Valley Homebuilders Launch Homelessness Initiative

A new community initiative will work to help some of the more than 6,300 people currently experiencing homelessness across the Valley find a place to lay their heads at night.

HomeAid America, a national nonprofit that provides housing opportunities and related resources for Americans experiencing homelessness, has launched a new Phoenix chapter and partnered with some of the region’s leading home builders to help develop, construct and maintain housing solutions for nonprofits that serve the local homeless community.

HomeAid, which now has 19 chapters nationwide, works with reputable and impactful nonprofits that need additional capacity so they can continue to provide housing assistance and related resources to the Valley’s homeless. Leading local and national homebuilders, including Taylor Morrison, The New Home Company, Shea Homes, Pulte Homes, Lennar Homes, K. Hovnanian Homes, Ashton Woods Homes, Beazer Homes, Landsea Homes, Mattamy Homes, Richmond American Homes, Maracay Homes, Woodside Homes and Brookfield Residential, have signed on to donate time, materials and labor to the effort.

“As home builders, it should come as no surprise that we believe everyone deserves a safe, stable and dignified place to call home,” said Brad Schoenberg, president of Taylor Morrison’s Phoenix Division and the newly elected board president of HomeAid Phoenix. “HomeAid Phoenix is a more direct opportunity for our industry to come together to help provide housing and improve the lives of those in our community experiencing homelessness.”

To date, HomeAid’s efforts have helped house more than 330,000 of the nation’s homeless, completing more than 850 housing projects valued in excess of $230 million.

“The root causes of homelessness are complex and often overlapping,” said HomeAid Phoenix Executive Director Sam Leyvas. “Solutions work when the approach is varied, comprehensive and built on innovative community partnerships. HomeAid Phoenix is ready to be a part of the hard work of addressing homelessness in the Valley.”
