Voya Financial employees from across the country traveled to Arizona for a weeklong volunteer sabbatical project in Tolani Lake with Soles4Souls. Their team, which consisted of approximately 20 Voya employees, combined efforts to provide shoes  and educational activities for the impoverished children living on the Navajo Reservation.

As a global nonprofit organization, Soles4Souls leadership was thrilled to partner with Voya Financial’s employees to make a difference right here in the United States. Kristen Reid, Soles4Souls Vice President, highlighted one of the unique factors to this service project.

“It was truly special watching the Voya employees impart their knowledge and passion for financial health and education with these children, who were hungry to learn,” shared Reid. “The most special memory of our time together, was inviting the children of Tolani Lake and the surrounding areas to participate in a fun event about financial literacy. The Voya crew taught the kids what it means to earn money, count it, differentiate between wants and needs, as well as spending and saving. Then, the employee volunteers brought the evening full-circle by allowing the youth to shop for both their needs and wants.”

Throughout the year, Voya employees are empowered with various opportunities to make a difference in their community. Whether it’s spearheading a company initiative or individually serving for a charitable cause, each full-time Voya employee is provided with 40 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer during their normal workday. This Arizona experience was just one snapshot of the greater good that Voya’s leadership hopes to accomplish through their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Kevin Silva, Voya’s Chief Human Resources Officer, explained that, “Voya is committed to conducting business in a way that is ethically, economically, socially and environmentally responsible — and, as part of that commitment, we take various actions to improve our communities. Our ongoing partnership with Sole4Souls aligns with our company’s commitment to benefit people in need, while also helping the environment at the same time.”

Because of their commitment to philanthropy, service and sustainability, Voya was recently recognized as a “Top Company to Work for in Arizona” and as a finalist for Phoenix Business Journal’s 2019 Corporate Volunteerism Award.
