Florence Crittenton Receives $100,000 Tax Credit Matching Gift

Florence Crittenton has been awarded a $100,000 matching donation from Gift for Empowerment.

From now through December 15, 2019, donors have an opportunity to double their donations by contributing to Florence Crittenton of Arizona’s Foster Care and Public School Tax Credit through a dollar-for-dollar match up to $100,000.

Annually, the Foster Care Tax Credit supports more than 200 girls, young women and their children by providing a safe shelter, basic provisions, housing, healthcare, education, counseling and social support.

“At the age of 3, I was placed in foster care and separated from my two siblings” said Megan, a former Florence Crittenton client. “I have been placed in more than 40 foster homes. Thanks to Florence Crittenton, I learned it is okay to be me. I learned that I can care about someone without getting scared. For the first time in a while, I felt I have friends and people that care about me.”

The Public School Tax Credit will support approximately 125 students at the Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona with science supplies and field trips that support the curriculum, upgrades in technology, extracurricular sports, clubs and enrichment activities.

“My four years of high school at the Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona taught me there is no substitute for education,” said Janessa, a former student. “And I’m not saying that gratuitously, because I think it’s important for every young woman…to hear what I have to say and believe that they, too, are capable of overcoming their disadvantages. My experience has taught me that education is empowerment; it is a precious commodity that no one can take from you. Education is the road to success, and in my case, the Girls Leadership Academy is the doorway.”

Tax Credit donations made to Florence Crittenton by December 15 are eligible for matching, including contributions by mail, online and over the phone.
