Women’s Luncheon Raises Awareness and Funds for MIHS Burn Center

The Event: A Bridge to Hope

The Cause: Maricopa Health Foundation

Mission: The MIHS Arizona Burn Center is the leading provider of emergency services to adults and pediatric burn patients from across the southwestern United States and northern Mexico and serves as the epicenter of the state of Arizona Burn Disaster Network.

Date held: February 7, 2019

Venue: Omni Scottsdale Resort at Montelucia

Program Highlight: Emcee Karie Dozer led a discussion with two mothers, Katy Owens and Lilly McCune, whose children were treated at the Arizona Burn Center. Each women’s story about the accidents that caused their children to suffer from severe burns and what happened when they were cared for at the Arizona Burn Center were shocking and filled with hope.

Dollars raised: $50,000

Notable moment: The stories shared at this event were excellent reminders to talk to your children about fire safety. In the case shared by Katy Owen, her children were replicating what they had seen on a YouTube video: turning aerosol cans into fire torches. For Lilly McCune’s daughter, she was simply standing too close to a BBQ fire being lit with lighter fluid. The presentation led to family discussion at our house and I hope the same happened for everyone that attended.
