The Event: The 25th Annual 2018 Ability Ball

The Cause: Arizona Disabled Sports // arizonadisabledsports.com

Mission or program funded: Arizona Disabled Sports programs, which needed new and improved adaptive equipment, uniforms, funds to host competitions and more.

Honorees: The Paula Rudow Award was awarded to Justin Newham from Team Mesa. The Jay Coyner Award was awarded to Gabe Scanlan from the Arizona Heat program.

Venue: Phoenix Marriott Mesa

Entertainment: Former NFL quarterback, Steve Young, sent a special video message to Gabe Scanlan for winning the Jay Coyner Award. He was unable to attend the event due to an event in London. Former NFL player, Jeff McIntyre was in attendance. Matt Parry, Paralympic athlete was also in attendance.

Keynote speaker: Current AzDS board president,Mark Grant recognized all past and current board members in attendance as well as Matt Parry, former AzDS athlete and Paralympian in the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta.

Brett Higgins and his team led the exciting Live Auction portion of the evening, which included resort getaways, a sniper shooting experience with Jon Geib, 11—year veteran and Army Ranger Sniper Section leader whose JJ Rock Co long-range shooting team is only the second team in history to hit a 2-Mile target during competition, and a live speed painting by local artist, Katia Von Kral.

Notable moment: Arizona Disabled Sports showed a video about Arizona Disabled Sports that was created by ReelBros, LLC to highlight the impact adaptive sports have on athletes and their families. To echo that sentiment, Dave Trujillo, parent and coach of the Arizona Heat Power Soccer Club spoke to the audience regarding the significant impact the organization has had on his family.
