Mayor’s Arts Awards Finalists Announced

The Phoenix Center for the Arts has announced the finalists for the Seventh Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards in the categories of Dance Artist, Visual Artist, Literary Artist, Music Artist, Theatre Artist, Young Artist and Innovative Organization.
Winners will be announced at the Seventh Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards event on Thursday, October 11 at Margaret T. Hance Park Urban Plaza. Finalists were selected based on innovation, impact and collaboration.
“I love working on the Mayor’s Arts Awards because they continue to evolve each year,” said Phoenix Center for the Arts Director Joseph Benesh. “Without exception, the awards process been modified each year based on input the panel of artists and community feedback. This year we added categories and tried to broaden the reach. We also tried to make the process more accessible by being clear that applications would not be judged on writing style or grammar. That seemed successful based on the number of applications we received. It only confirmed what many of us already know: Phoenix talent runs deep!”
Each category, except the Young Artist category, has three finalists. The Young Artist category, which is new and features artists ages 12 to 17, has eight finalists.
The Innovative Organization finalists are CALA Alliance, La Phoenikera and Spot 127, Youth Media Center.
