$450K+ Raised for STEM programs at Galaxy Gala

Roman statutes greeted guests while Gladiators guarded the precious Pompeii exhibit. Deep red drapes, smoldering drinks and a carnivore centric dinner menu further enhanced the evening’s motif. The 2018 Arizona Science Center Galaxy Gala theme, “A Night in Pompeii.” transported attendees back in time to 79 A.D. where they were able to mingle amongst rare artifacts and experience the Roman city of Pompeii.

Gala guests leisurely explored 200 precious artifacts on loan from the unparalleled collection of the Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy, including wall-sized frescoes, mosaics, marble and bronze sculptures, jewelry, statues and ancient Roman coins. The gala itself marked the reveal of several special artifacts not yet released to the public, giving Galaxy Gala guests the first glimpse at this traveling show in all its glory.

Event chair Tracy Lytle stepped up fashion expectations for all future event chairs with her stellar attire selections, wearing not one but two form fitting goddess styled dresses that captured the attention of every fashionista attending the event. Together with her co-chairs Larry Lytle, McKenna Wesley and Susie Wesley they created a magical and magnificent event. The event raised more than $450K to benefit STEM education programs.

The fundraising focus is primarily on the Fund-A-Bus Initiative, which will provide 3,000 youth with round-trip transportation and general admission for a field trip to Arizona Science Center, plus 120 educators, will receive a free professional development workshop. With 465 guests attending the event, the lively group danced the night away in the redecorated science center, celebrating a fantastic event and a marvelous exhibit that will remain open to the public until May 28.
