‘This American Life’ Creator Ira Glass to Speak in Phoenix

Ira Glass, public radio host and creator and producer of “This American Life,” will bring his “Seven Things I’ve Learned: An Evening With Ira Glass” talk to Orpheum Theatre as part of Scottsdale Arts’ new Scottsdale Arts Presents series.

Glass will incorporate audio clips, music and video into his talk — discussing the lessons from his life and career, what inspires him to create, what drives his passion and how his failures and successes have informed his decisions.

“This American Life” premiered on Chicago’s WBEZ in 1995. The show now boasts more than 2.2 million listeners on over 500 public radio stations across the globe. Each show also receives another 2.5 million downloads as a podcast.

The show has received a duPont-Columbia Award and five Peabody awards. A television adaptation ran on Showtime for two seasons in 2007 and 2008 winning three Emmy Awards.

Glass began his career as an intern with National Public Radio in Washington D.C. and has since held nearly every production role there including newscast writer, desk assistant, reporter and producer.

He has filled in as a host of “Talk of the Nation” and “Weekend All Things Considered.” He also served as a producer of the film “Don’t Think Twice” and produced and co-wrote the film “Sleepwalk with Me.”
