‘Queermas’ Initiative Brings Holiday Cheer to LGBTQ Youth

one-n-ten is giving LGBTQ youth, especially those who might be having a difficult time due to tensions with family or peer bullying, something to celebrate this holiday season.

The nonprofit is partnering with various bars, restaurants, churches and coffee shops around the Valley to collect necessities and gift items through the 20th to help lift the holiday spirits of teens and young adults who might otherwise not receive gifts this year.

Holiday wish list items include bus passes, headphones, underwear, wigs, gift cards for groceries, jackets and books. The program participants will receive their gifts at the one-n-ten Youth Center on Christmas Day along with a hot meal, caroling and an appearance by Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Gift collection efforts are done through “Adopt-A-Diva” Christmas trees displayed at various locations including Fair Trade Café, Coronado and Bliss Rebar. Patrons can select a tag off the tree to fulfill the wish of a youth — gifts must be turned into one-n-ten by December 20.
