Frontdoors Five: Winter Activities for Kids

The holidays are almost here and so is winter break — a long break. If you’re contemplating how you’re going to keep your kids entertained for the final weeks of the year, we have you covered with plenty of ideas — from holiday-themed events to shows the entire family will enjoy.
1. See a holiday-themed show.
We’re lucky to have plenty of great arts organizations in the Valley, so why not start a new family tradition of seeing a great holiday performance? You can check out all of our top picks for the season here.
2. Enjoy a dazzling lights display.
Drives around the neighborhood to see lights just isn’t as fun anymore with so many Valley spots putting on truly fantastic displays. Plus, there are plenty of kid-centered options your whole family is bound to love — like Zoolights or the holiday lights at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.
3. Let them play games.
If your kids have a lot of extra energy (that you’d rather they not expel by running through the house) spots like Jake’s Unlimited and Urban Jungle are a great option because they can run and play until they wear themselves out. Plus, adults can have fun too — like at the bar at Jake’s Unlimited — or the relaxing adult-geared lounge at Urban Jungle.
4. Spend a day at the museum.
There’s no reason the learning has to stop just because the kids are out of school, and with all the great exhibits happening around the Valley parents just might learn something new too! Some of our favorite museums for children are the Arizona Science Center and the Children’s Museum.
5. Teach the value of giving back.
You can never teach children the joys of philanthropy too early — whether it’s caroling around the neighborhood, participating in a clothing drive or helping at a food bank — there’s so many ways to make an impact this season.
